‘Unbelievable’ Will Sutherland catch leaves Thunder stunned as David Warner hits new high

Melbourne Renegades skipper Will Sutherland left the Sydney Thunder stunned after pulling off an incredible flying catch to dismiss Sam Billings.

A strong stint in the middle by David Warner saw the Sydney Thunder claim an eight-run victory over the Renegades, in what pushed the hosts up to second on the BBL table.

Warner may have survived the entirety of the innings but his partnership with Billings came to an insane ending.

In the 13th over, Kane Richardson bowled to Billings who whacked the ball towards mid on and looked to be set for a certain boundary.

But Sutherland came between Billings and the rope as he intercepted the ball to take an insane catch.

"That is a top three catch in BBL history," Brett Lee said on Fox Cricket.

"Soar like an eagle… I know he's got an AFL background but that is as good as it gets," Brad Haddin added.

Sutherland's teammate Mackenzie Harvey labelled the effort "bloody unbelievable."

"I've got no words for that… I think [at this point] in the game, that makes it even better."

With Billings out for 10 off 10 balls, Matthew Gilkes joined Warner in the middle.

Gilkes proved to be a strong pairing for Warner, who brought up 50 in style.

The match marked the highest score recorded by Warner in the BBL since his unbeaten century on debut in 2011.

Leaving the Renegades with a 156-run chase, the harsh realities of the slow pitch proved too much.

Opener Josh Brown was lucky to escape dismissal on two occasions, dropped twice in his knock of 21 runs.

Brown's opening partnership with Jake Fraser-McGurk placed the Renegades in a strong position as they found 34 runs in four overs.

But the power of Wes Agar quickly saw the team's momentum come to a halt as the Thunder bowler carved up the opposition in remarkable fashion.

Agar prevented Zak Evans from finding a half century, sending him packing for 40. Teammate Daniel Sams added to the Renegades wounds by taking two wickets.

Tom Andrews and Chris Green sealed the victory with a wicket each.

The Thunder will return to action on Friday where they will face the Perth Scorchers. The Renegades will take on the Strikers on Thursday.
