Teenager Haine Eames makes history for Central Coast Mariners during dramatic draw

Central Coast Mariners teenager Haine Eames made history in the A-League during his side's clash with Macarthur on Monday night, becoming the youngest goalscorer in the club's history.

Eames' strike in the 53rd minute levelled up proceedings after the Bulls had scored first early through Daniel De Silva.

The 16-year-old was left unmarked on the edge of the box as the Mariners swung a corner in. He then hit the shot on the half volley to make it 1-1.

The youngest goalscorer record for the Mariners was previously held by Garang Kuol for his effort in 2021.

Eames also became the youngest ever player to start for the Mariners.

"Nobody expecting the young man to play any part in that corner but how about that to equalise, and score your first goal? What a great start," former Socceroos Erik Paartalu said in commentary for Paramount+.

"Just beautiful to watch. I can't wait to see more of this kid … what an influence he's had on this game."

Central Coast had a big chance to claim victory late in the match when Macarthur skipper Tomislav Uskok was shown a straight red card in the 89th minute for bundling over Alou Kuol who was in on goal.

The Mariners couldn't make the most of the advantage though and sit 10th on the A-League ladder. Macarthur are fifth.

Socceroo Trent Sainsbury also made his return to the A-League with the Mariners, having not played in the competition for 11 years.

Youngster Bernardo also made a return from an Achilles injury, having spent nine months on the sideline.
