Rival club hoses down links to Dylan Brown after $1m star’s bold gamble

One suitor has already removed itself from the looming race to sign Parramatta playmaker Dylan Brown.

The Eels player's agent caused a stir earlier this month when he sent an email to the 16 other clubs, indicating he was open to offers for the Kiwi five-eighth.

It was sent despite the fact Brown is signed to Parramatta until the end of 2031, albeit there are clauses to trigger each season beyond 2025.

He's earning near enough to $1 million a year but would likely attract interest from clubs looking for a marquee playmaker.

One of those clubs isn't, however, the Dolphins.

Their CEO told Nine's Today he has no interest in pursuing Brown.

"That was talked about repeatedly, and we seem to be the top of the list no matter who's going to be moving clubs," Terry Reader said.

"But we are quite confident in the spine we've got.

"Our focus is on re-signing those and locking those guys up. We have some very good players in those positions."

The Dolphins already have young gun halfback Isaiya Katoa on the books, as well as experienced halves Kodi Nikorima and Sean O'Sullivan.

The Dolphins finished 10th in 2024 and are hoping to climb the ladder this year under new head coach Kristian Woolf.

Woolf takes over from master coach Wayne Bennett, to complete a two-year succession plan.

"If you look at the transition we've had with Woolfy, it's probably been one of the best you've ever seen," Reader said.

"He was part of the plan from day one, recruited with Wayne.

"He's not an assistant coach who we're hoping can be a head coach, he has been there and done it in the Super League, winning three consecutive premierships before he joined us, and we've all seen what he's done with Tonga.

"We are very confident in what Kristian Woolf is going to do at our club."

The Dolphins face Bennett's Rabbitohs in their season opener on March 7.
