Nestory Irankunda’s reveal over talks with Bayern Munich over potential move

Socceroos prodigy Nestory Irankunda has revealed he's "in talks" for a loan move as he battles for first team opportunities.

Irankunda moved from Adelaide United to Bayern Munich at the start of the Bundesliga season but has been playing with the reserve team.

The 18-year-old has trained with the first team and was named on the bench for Bayern's UEFA Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Irankunda admitted the occasion "was a dream come true" despite not gracing the pitch.

But now the winger is hoping for first team opportunities in the short-term to help him develop, revealing on Paramount+ that he's spoken to the club about a loan.

"Yeah of course, I've spoken to them," he said.

"Obviously you want to be playing and you want to be playing at a top level, first division, and at a good club also so I've been in talks with the club and coaches about going loan.

"I feel like it will be better for me, I have to be playing, I can't keep playing under 23s every week."

Irankunda's move to the Bundesliga came with plenty of fanfare back home with the Socceroos searching for their next wunderkind.

Asked if seeing Harry Kane was a pinch me moment, the winger responded it was actually the sight of someone else.

"My first session I couldn't believe it. It wasn't seeing Harry Kane, it was seeing Vincent Kompany, the coach, because he's a legend and been in the game quite a while," he said.

"And then when you see Harry Kane, Leroy Sane, it's even better because they're such high profile players and they're very good so it's obviously a dream to see players like that."
