Melbourne's round one dominance has continued after last year's runner-ups gave former assistant coach Jason Ryles no reason to smile in his Eels debut.
The Storm blew away Parramatta in the first half, with the score 46-6 at the break. Melbourne went on to win 56-18.
"They were ultra impressive in the first half, they have everything … they've sent a message to the rest of the competition," Billy Slater said on Nine.
The Storm raced out to a 40-0 lead inside the first 36 minutes at AAMI Park, and it wasn't until then that the Eels scored points.

Jake Tago was the man crossing the line on that occasion, however Melbourne grabbed another try through Ryan Papenhuyzen before the break.
Papenhuyzen's effort was his second of the half, while Josh King, Xavier Coates, Eli Katoa, Harry Grant and Nick Meaney all had tries too.
"We mightn't have enough numbers on the scoreboard here to keep up … (Parramatta) have been completely blown away. I watched them come up to kick off the last restart and they came up like brown's cows," Phil Gould said after Grant's try.

In the second half, Melbourne were first with the points again as Will Warbrick ran the field with an intercept while Jahrome Hughes also joined the party.
The home side fell away at the end though with Will Penisini and Isaiah Iongi scoring consolation tries.
For Melbourne, the win makes it 23 first round victories in a row, continuing coach Craig Bellamy's stunning record.
Next week the Storm has the bye while Parramatta plays the Wests Tigers on Sunday.
