Matt Kuhnemann will be part of Australia's squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the left-arm orthodox bowler will be part of the Test squad as he looks to end a two-year hiatus from the team.

Kuhnemann featured in the 2023 series against India, but hasn't worn the baggy green since as selectors favoured Todd Murphy as the back-up spinner.

The 28-year-old has taken nine wickets for Australia in his three appearances to date.

Right-arm offie Murphy is still expected to be part of a group that could include up to 16 players, all-but ending Adam Zampa's hopes of debuting in the red-ball format.

Among the other names expected to be included is versatile batter Pete Handscomb, while the decision-makers at Cricket Australia are also weighing up Cooper Connolly.

The 21-year-old all-rounder has already represented the Aussies in white-ball cricket and has been earmarked as a future Test star due to his batting and left-arm offies.

Connolly is the leading run-scorer in BBL|14 with the Perth Scorchers, but has only played four first-class games for Western Australia to date.

Beau Webster is expected to remain in the middle-order against Sri Lanka, which could spell the end for Mitchell Marsh in the Test arena.

Glenn Maxwell is also an outside chance of playing given his subcontinent record.

The squad is expected to be announced on Thursday.
