Maia Bouchier’s dropped catch brings smile from Beth Mooney as England fumbles four chances in horror day

England's horror Ashes series continued on day two of their Test against Australia with four missed chances in the first two sessions.

The biggest sitter came from a Beth Mooney cut shot, with the Aussie stalwart smiling following Maia Bouchier's effort.

With Mooney on 18 in the 71st over, the middle order batter guided a Ryana MacDonald-Gay delivery straight to gully.

Bouchier dropped it clean though with Isabelle Westbury noting on Fox Cricket "she didn't have to move a muscle".

"It went in, it went out, and I don't know what's on that ball, but I think it might be butter," she said.

Mooney then cracked a smile straight after the dropped catch.

"This is unbelievable, this is a mental game now for England," Mike Hussey said.

"The thoughts going through all the players are 'we've put down chances, please don't come to me, I don't want to make a mistake'. That's the mindset a lot of them must be in at the moment.

"There's been so many chances."

The drop of Mooney came after Annabel Sutherland was dropped twice early in her innings.

The first chance went to Danielle Wyatt-Hodge at point who dived to her right and fumbled it when Sutherland was on 29.

Wicket-keeper Amy Jones was the second to fumble a chance when Sutherland had only scored another two runs.

To add insult to injury, Sutherland went on to hit her third Test century.

Phoebe Litchfield gave the other chance at 1-59, attempting a straight drive with Sophia Dunkley completely misjudging the catch and didn't get a fingertip to it.

The two chances for Sutherland and one for Litchfield all came from the bowling of Sophie Ecclestone.
