If his batting won't earn him a Test recall, Glenn Maxwell is hoping another dynamic element of his game one day will.
And that X-factor would be his fielding.
After being crowned the joint winner of the BBL player of the the tournament alongside Perth Scorchers youngster Cooper Connolly, the Melbourne Stars veteran opened up on his stellar season.
Most importantly, taking that special catch at the Gabba on the boundary against the Brisbane Heat and what his fielding means to his broader career.
"I've made no secret about, (fielding is) my third string to my bow," Maxwell said while accepting his award.

"If there's ever a chance there's an all-rounder (Test) spot up for grabs, I'm hoping my fielding gets me over the line.
"It's something I have practiced a fair bit. As I said on the commentary, I would have been pretty dirty on myself if I had have dropped it."
The Stars great admitted that he continues to learn and teach young players the art and importance of fielding.
"It's something I work on extremely hard. It's one of my key points … when I'm coaching as well with players," he said.
"If you get really good at fielding, if you practice the really hard things, the hard things in the game become really easy.
"That's one of the things that helped me in junior cricket and one of those things I've carried into older age."
And missing out on a Test call-up again hasn't been the easiest on the 36-year-old's mental health.
He gave special thanks to his Stars teammates, who rode the bumps of the season, including missing selection for the Sri Lanka two-Test series.

"To my teammates who have done an amazing job of dealing with the ups and down," Maxwell began.
"They've been amazing people to rest back on. I've made no secret of my struggles with mental health over the years, so to have their consistent support over the journey as friends treated like family has been so special."
The Stars managed to make the BBL finals after losing their first five matches.
