Former Collingwood president Eddie McGuire found the funny side to Carlton's shocking capitulation on the weekend after Richmond's miracle win.

The Blues were winning by 41 points in the second quarter but were run down spectacularly by the Tigers, equalling the club's biggest comeback victory.

Speaking on Nine's Eddie and Jimmy podcast, Jimmy Bartel noted rival fans were calling into 3AW Radio late into the night to celebrate the loss.

"It was extraordinary," he said.

McGuire agreed, stating "it brought great joy to people" with a wry smile.

The win for the Tigers was sealed when Seth Campbell celebrated his final goal with a backflip.

"That was awesome," Bartel added.

McGuire went on to share he was attending a dinner at the time, sitting next to Visit Victoria chief executive officer and Carlton fan, Brendan McClements.

The media personality laughed as he described the night, before backing the Blues to bounce back.

"Carlton will be all right … I love football in that I always say to people, if you knew what was going to happen, you wouldn't turn up," he said.

"Everyone (was saying) Richmond won't win a game, Carlton are this and Collingwood are useless, too old and too slow … and for the young Tigers to come out, you couldn't script it," he said.

"If you did that at the movies that would make Rocky look like a reality show.

"It was so unbelievable to be 41 points (down), Carlton rolling over the top and five minutes before everyone up and went home early and suddenly it starts to roll."
