Injury fears for Ellyse Perry after landing ‘awkwardly’ on hip during day one of Ashes Test

Australian star Ellyse Perry's hip injury dampened a dominant bowling display from the host nation in the Ashes Test match against England on Thursday afternoon.

Cricket Australia released a statement after a fielding mishap on the MCG boundary, with Perry flipping over as she attempted to save a four.

While she did stop a boundary, the star rolled onto her side and looked in agony, curling up in pain.

The 34-year-old did not return to the field As Australia bowled England out for an impressive 170 in the first session.

Cricket Australia then confirmed later in the evening that Perry would not bat on day one.

"Ellyse won't bat tonight, she'll be reassessed tomorrow morning," the CA statement read.

Australia dominated with ball in hand after winning the toss, with England's top scorer, Natalie Sciver-Brunt, managing 51 off 129.

Spin bowler Alana King took 4-45 in a scintillating display on her home ground, as England was bowled out for 170.

Australia finished the night at 1-56, with Phoebe Litchfield on 20 and Annabel Sutherland 24 not out. Georgia Voll was the batter out on 12, caught behind off Lauren Bell's bowling.
