Horror challenge leaves PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma bloodied as rival escapes without punishment

A horror challenge for the ball forced Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to the sidelines as his face was left bloodied and bruised.

The Italian star collided with the studs of Wilfried Singo's boot in the 17th minute of PSG's 4-2 victory over Monaco in Ligue 1.

Singo broke down the right edge and looked to beat Donnarumma to the ball before attempting a shot on target.

The shot was quickly blocked by a sliding Donnarumma but Singo, under pressure from incoming defenders, failed to clear contact as he jumped over his rival.

The 23-year-old's studs sliced the side of Donnarumma's face, with the keeper sinking to the turf as blood dripping down his face.

Donnarumma, 25, was seen with a large cut below his right eye, with all attention quickly shifting in the stadium to a response from the referee Francois Letexier.

No yellow or red card was shown to Singo, who had already been warned in the match.

Medical staff soon after assisted Donnarumma from the pitch to the sheds as Matvei Safonov arrived to replace him.

PSG confirmed the Italian was cleared to return to Paris with the team, having received 10 staples, and would undergo further medical examinations for the "facial trauma" in the coming days.

Luis Enrique, PSG manager, refused to comment or criticise the handling of the situation by on-field match officials following the game.

"The refereeing decisions? I can't do anything," Enrique said.

"I couldn't see the action, but when you see an action like that it's always difficult

"The players don't intend to hurt. It's difficult to referee this kind of match, I'm not talking about the refereeing work."

The victory positions PSG atop of the Ligue 1 table, 10 points clear of all rival clubs. Monaco remain in third place.
