Phil Gould has delivered some "unfortunate" news ahead of Canterbury's blockbuster round one clash against the Dragons, with changes expected to be made from the team named on Tuesday due to injury.

Head coach Cameron Ciraldo had already named an under-strength 23-man squad on Tuesday, with just two players from the club's most likely full-strength team unavailable.

Star winger Jacob Kiraz remains sidelined indefinitely due to injury, while forward Josh Curran is out of action for two matches due to suspension.

However, speaking less than 24 hours after the squad was unveiled, Gould revealed the Bulldogs would likely be forced into further changes before Saturday's fixture.

"Unfortunately, I think there will be some changes before the weekend," he said on Wide World of Sports' Six Tackles With Gus.

"We'll have to check on those later on. There's a couple of injuries not in this list. It's a little unfortunate that we'll have a couple missing, but that will give some opportunities.

"We've had to get approval for two players outside the top 30 in Luke Smith and Jethro Rinakama to be in the 23 we have named. We are already outside the top 30.

"There may be a couple of others missing by the time we get to game day."

At this stage, the potential absentees for the Dogs aren't clear, however new recruit Sitili Tupouniua was battling injury in pre-season and didn't feature in the trials.

Gould's men will face their old rivals at a sold-out Kogarah Oval on Saturday evening.
