Big Bash fixture abandoned due to ‘frustrating’ wet weather dramas

The clash between the Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat has been called off due to wet weather in Coffs Harbour.

For the second-straight Big Bash season, the venue on the NSW North Coast was hit with rain on the day of play, wreaking havoc for local fans.

But while last year's game in Coffs was played under restricted overs conditions, they weren't so lucky this time around as play was abandoned.

After plenty of inspections, both captains shook hands at 7.15pm AEDT – an hour after play was initially meant to begin.

Heat star Michael Neser, who was slated to return from injury for his first game of the campaign, described the rain delay as "frustrating" during an interview with Fox Cricket.

"Just when you think it's clearing … it starts to build up," the all-rounder said.

Last year's grand finalists have already faced off once prior in BBL|14 and it was the Sixers who earned a modicum of revenge, securing a cruisy eight-wicket victory.

After the washout, the Heat sit in fifth spot on the ladder, while the Sixers are atop the Big Bash standings with four wins from six games.

The other game on Friday night is scheduled for Perth's Optus Stadium between the Scorchers and Sydney Thunder, with both sides desperate to move to first place.
