Aryna Sabalenka advances to semis after ‘really tough’ battle against Marie Bouzková

Aryna Sabalenka has advanced to the semi finals of the Brisbane International, holding off a "really tough" opponent Marie Bouzková.

The world's best female player had struggled against Bouzkova in the past and while she managed to win in straight sets on Friday night, it was nothing but easy going.

Sabalenka won 6-3 6-4 but the second set didn't come without some hurdles, failing to capitalise on a plethora of match points before finally getting the job done.

"They are always tough battles against Marie," she told Nine post-match.

"The last one I lost and it was a really tough match, so I came into this really focused.

"I'm really glad I was able to start from the beginning and put her under some pressure and finish this match in straight sets."

Sabalenka is yet to drop a set in Brisbane but did only just survive a tiebreak against Yulia Putintseva in the round of 16.

Her latest victory puts Sabalenka on a collision course with teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva, who has put the competition on notice over the past few days.

"She's a great player and we played an exhibition in Abu Dhabi, so I got to know her a little bit better," Sabalenka said of the 17-year-old.

"She's a nice person, a great player and we've had great battles in the past. I'm really looking forward to facing her tomorrow."

The two-time Australian Open winner has become a fan favourite in recent years and thanked the fans in Brisbane for their support.

"I love playing in Australia and I love the support and atmosphere, no matter where I play you guys always bring an amazing atmosphere," Sabalenka said.
