Jaclyn Symes will be sworn in as Victoria’s new Treasurer tomorrow, becoming the first woman to hold the position. The Northern Victoria MP is currently Attorney-General and Minister for Emergency Services. She will replace Tim Pallas, who resigned this week after a decade in the role.

(9News) Pallas said he was the longest-serving independent state treasurer, taking over the role when Daniel Andrews became Premier in 2014. He said it had been a “great honour and privilege” to serve the people of Victoria. Looking back on his career and explaining his decision to resign, Pallas said he felt “it was time to go”. His resignation comes just days after Pallas unveiled a mid-year budget update which showed the deficit would increase from $2.2 billion to $3.6 billion in 2024-25.
