Black Friday shoppers have been placed in a virtual queue with estimated wait times of almost an hour on Chemist Warehouse's website as the key sales period continues for retailers across Australia.Customers who opted to shop online with the pharmacy wholesaler today were unable to immediately reach the website due to "a high volume of traffic"."You are now in line, thank you for your patience," the website landing page said.

(Supplied)"We are experiencing a high volume of traffic and using a virtual queue to limit the amount of users on the website at the same time."This will ensure you have the best possible online experience."Other customers had shorter estimated wait times of up to 15 minutes.A Chemist Warehouse spokesperson referred to the statement on the website when contacted by 9News.com.au for further comment.The annual Black Friday sales sees a surge in shopping online and according to a recent study by bank ING, Australians are estimated to spend $675 million during this year's sales.
