Premiership star to miss entire 2025 AFL season after ‘innocuous incident during training’

West Coast is in the midst of a pre-season injury crisis as one star faces an entire year in the recovery ward.

Veteran midfielder Dom Sheed, who won the 2018 premiership with the Eagles, ruptured an anterior cruciate ligament in his knee during a training session on Monday.

The 29-year-old will miss the entire 2025 AFL season.

"Unfortunately, Dom ruptured his ACL in an innocuous incident during training on Monday," football manager Gavin Bell said.

"It is extremely disappointing news for Dom after a wretched run with injuries over recent seasons, and I know our players, staff and entire club will offer him their full support during his rehabilitation.

"We will take some time now to consult with Dom and medical experts about the next step, and we will provide a further update at the appropriate time."

He joins a lengthy list of injured players at West Coast.

Young superstar Harley Reid pulled up sore after a session on Friday and the club reported "ankle soreness".

"After an intense pre-season schedule so far, the 19-year-old will work through a modified program this week," the club said.

"With a long year ahead, we're just looking after him this week, using it as a de-load week for him, and we expect him to be back training next week."

Jake Waterman (back), Elliott Yeo (ankle), and new recruit Liam Baker (ankle) have all been busted during pre-season but are expected back on deck in the coming weeks.

West Coast has not finished higher than 16th on the ladder for the past three seasons.
