Australia takes 2-0 Davis Cup lead against Sweden in Stockholm

Australia holds a 2-0 lead over Sweden in their Davis Cup first round tie, after Alex de Minaur and Aleksandar Vukic won their opening singles rubbers against Sweden in Stockholm.

The Aussies are without Nick Kyrgios and Jordan Thompson who remain injured, opening the door for Vukic to make his debut.

De Minaur was pushed in the first set before he went on to defeat Mikael Ymer 7-5, 6-1 on Saturday AEDT.

Lleyton Hewitt's injury-ravaged side got a boost in the first tie as de Minaur controlled the match from the outset against Ymer, who is a former top-50 player and coming off an 18-month ban for an anti-doping violation.

"It was a competitive match, a very tough match," de Minaur said in his on-court interview.

"Mikael played well. I knew he was going to be a very tough opponent, so I'm very happy I got the win for Australia and put a win on the board."

In the following match debutant Vukic defeated Leo Borg 6-4, 6-4 in the second singles rubber.

"Leo's a very good player," Vukic said.

"He made it very tough, and it's always tough to play in front of the opponent's home crowd.

"Alex did a great job before me, and hopefully we'll just get some rest and recovery before the doubles guys try to do their thing."

Matthew Ebden and John Peers will take on Filip Bergevi and Andre Goransson in the doubles rubber on Sunday morning (AEDT).

The reverse singles rubbers will see de Minaur battle Borg, and Vukic battle Ymer.
