Katie Boulter lifts lid on ‘difficult’ nature of having fiance Alex de Minaur on court at the same time

Katie Boulter had a special message for her Aussie fans after reaching the second round of the Australian Open.

Boulter, the fiancee of Alex de Minaur, has effectively become part-Australian considering the love she received in Melbourne during her opening match against Rebecca Marino.

The crowd was well and truly behind her as she battled to a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 against the Canadian on Show Court Arena.

The Brit described the match as "stressful" and put her successful run down to the crowd.

Asked if Australia feels like a home away from home, Boulter's comment brought a cheer.

"This is the closest I've ever felt to home, it's all because of you guys," she said on Nine's coverage.

The moniker of Aussie Katie might be too much, though.

"Hey they might want to get rid of me, I don't know," she laughed.

"From the moment I landed here in Australia, I felt the love. I can't tell you how much it means to me, thanks so much."

De Minaur revealed he was aware of Boulter's score even while he was playing his own match on a different court.

Boulter said she was not aware of her fiance's progress but later spoke about the impact De Minaur has had on her game.

"Having Alex there, he is my support system," she said.

"He is someone who has helped me through the rough moments and the good moments. He kind of leads me, I would say.

"I think he's shown himself what an incredible tennis player he is, and he's ranked top 10 in the world and has been there for a whole year, which is not an easy thing to do.

"I think at times, you know, it's obviously difficult to know that he's playing a match, and you're kind of hearing cheers here and there, and you're hoping that's for him, but you never know.

"I think I heard his mum's voice from the crowd. That was the first thing I heard before he came.

"I kind of felt comfortable that he had won and, you know, that I could fully relax."

De Minaur was sitting in the stands after winning against Botic van de Zandschulp.
