Ellyse Perry, Ash Gardner involved in horror batting collapse as Australia lose 4-7 against England

Ellyse Perry looked to be on her way to a century in the second game of the women's Ashes series – but her dismissal prompted a huge momentum swing for England.

The star all-rounder seemed to be marching her way towards triple-figures when she was trapped in front lbw for 60 off 74 deliveries in the second ODI.

While the on-field umpire initially turned down England's appeal, a lengthy video review saw Perry sent packing after replays showed the ball going on to hit the stumps.

Perry's exit came in the midst of a horror Aussie collapse, losing 4-7 in the first innings on their way to being bowled out for 180 – their lowest total in 15 years.

Annabel Sutherland (11) was the first to depart to kickstart the collapse and make the score 4-146, and then it was Perry who went moments later to take the card to 5-149.

Less than two overs later, Ash Gardner (2) was bowled by spinner Alice Capsey. Another over after that, Tahlia McGrath (1) was knocked over by Lauren Filer to make it 7-153.

"Heather Knight is pulling all the right strings at the moment … Australia are in trouble.," commentator Kirby Short said on Fox Cricket.

Leg-spinner Alana King (13) attempted to steady the ship with the bat, but she was also sent back to the pavilion before Megan Schutt was out for a duck.

Kim Garth (9) was the last wicket to fall at Junction Oval.

Australia won the first ODI match of the multi-format series on Sunday.
