Audit household bills

The first hack is to perform an audit of bills.A household could save up to $2790 on average in the first year by switching six common bills to cheaper or better value options.You could save an average of $975 on home insurance, $958 on car insurance and $219 on health insurance by shopping around.Other savings include up to $174 on NBN plans and $129 on mobile phone plans.Ebay vendor wants $10,500 for this Aussie coin – is it worth it? Decluttering

Last year, more than 20,000 Australians participated in a national garage sale, earning an extra $460 on average.The Garage Sale Trial is a two-day event that will return in November, but Aussies can do the same thing using sites like eBay, Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree.Reseller site eBay estimates that Australians could pocket an extra $100 per household by selling unwanted Christmas gifts alone.Families can also sell items like collectables, vintage or trendy clothes or old furniture to make a quick buck.

Boost your super

Some Australians can collect $500 from the government in their super.You need to earn $45,400 or less and contribute $1000 of your after-tax money into their superfund by July 1 to be eligible.To avoid a big lump sum payment of $1000, families can save $50 a week from February.

Wasteful spending

There are also a number of ways households can cut back on wasteful spending.Cutting back two streaming or subscription services can save families an average of $360 per year.One less takeaway meal per week can save someone as much as $1560.Making a coffee at home instead of spending $5 for one each day can save $1200 per person.The total savings would come out to $3120 per year after cutting back those few things. Over three years, one person could save up to $10,300. 

App Audit
