’Stop using immediately’: Christmas candle recalled over deadly risk to children

A popular range of Christmas-themed candles sold at Dusk stores across Australia has been recalled due to safety fears.The recall was issued for the scented candles with light-up LED lights after it failed to comply with mandatory information standards for items containing button/coin batteries.The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) warned the product could pose a serious risk to young children.

(Supplied)"The product does not include the required warning information," the ACCC said."There is a risk of choking, severe internal burn injuries or death to young children if they gain access to the button/coin batteries and swallow or place them inside their body."Severe or fatal injuries can happen in 2 hours or less. Consumers may be unaware that the product contains button batteries."The items were sold across the country at Dusk stores from October 24 to December 12.Affected models include:

  • • Fresh Evergreen – 50225101
  • • Fruit Market – 50225118
  • • Sweet Shop – 50225125
