‘Risk of serious injury or death’: Popular ute recalled over manufacturing defect

Volkswagen has issued an urgent safety recall for a popular ute over fears a manufacturing defect may increase the risk of serious injury or death.More than 700 Amarok vehicles from 2023 to 2024 are potentially impacted.The car company has found the driver's seat belt may have been incorrectly anchored.

(Supplied)"As a result, the seat belt may not operate as intended," the recall notice said."In the event of an accident, if the seat belt does not operate as intended, the occupant may not receive the full protection of the seatbelt system. "This could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants."Volkswagen will contact affected car owners to schedule an appointment to have the work carried out free of charge.A list of affected VIN (vehicle identification numbers) is available on the Department of Transport Website.For more information car owners can call Volkswagen Group Australia on 1800 504 076 or email [email protected].
