Raiders fans booed referee Wyatt Raymond, and coach Ricky Stuart looked filthy on the sideline after the Broncos were not penalised for an elbow to the throat.

Brisbane backrower Jordan Riki carted the ball up in the nation's capital on Saturday night when he lifted his left arm to shield himself.

His forearm and elbow made contact with the throat of Canberra star Hudson Young, who reeled away from the contest and fell to his knees.

Young clutched at his throat and had to be checked by a trainer as the game was paused.

"Boy, that's got to be frightening," Fox League caller Dan Ginnane said.

"That's a nasty one, the elbow.

"Young wanted a penalty, he wasn't happy with that at all."

Raymond opted not to penalise Riki and so the Broncos held possession, much to the disgust of the home fans.

"There have been some famous elbows into throats," league great Greg Alexander said.

"And it can be very dangerous."

In 2021, Cronulla forward Andrew Fifita suffered a laryngeal fracture during a game and had to be placed in an induced coma and rushed into surgery.

Then-Knights player Rory Kostjasyn was forced to retire from the game in 2017 when he copped an accidental elbow to his throat from a teammate during training.

Luckily, Young got to his feet and continued playing.

The Raiders went on to upset the Broncos 32-22.
