Supercars team releases CCTV footage of brazen daytime robbery of pitstop practice car

A Supercars team has released CCTV of the moment its mule car used for pitstop practice was stolen in a brazen daylight robbery.

Thieves drove a truck through the gates of Team18's Mount Waverley headquarters in Melbourne's eastern suburbs about 6.45am Australia Day.

They then broke into the workshop itself through a side door, and then drove the pitstop car out of the warehouse, followed by the truck.

The team said the front gates of the complex were broken completely off during the robbery.

Mule cars are modified road cars that allow the teams to complete pitstop practice at their workshops.

The Team18 mule car has modified wheel hubs that allows Supercars wheels to be mounted, as well as an air spike for the jacks, and a fuel insert.

The modifications, as well as the large race numbers on the door of the car give it a distinctive look.

The team has asked anyone with information to contact them on [email protected], and promised a reward if the information leads to the car's recovery.

Team18 will enter the season with a new driver lineup, with Anton de Pasquale joining David Reynolds.

The Supercars season gets underway in Sydney on February 21-23.
